Virtual Nothern Legend

Spot images represent expression level of the gene. For each combination of tissue and histology, expression is computed by dividing the number of ESTs or SAGE tags representing the gene divided by the total number of ESTs or SAGE tags in all libraries with the given tissue/histology. This ratio is then multiplied by 200,000, giving the number of ESTs or SAGE tags per 200,000. This number is then placed on a logarithmic scale as follows:

Spot Intensity ESTs (Tags) per 200,000
-- No data for tissue/histology
  < 1
< 2
< 4
< 8
< 16
< 32
< 64
< 128
< 256
< 512
>= 512

The notation '--' means that there are no libraries for the given tissue/histology.

Numeric columns give the actual EST/tag counts. For example, "2 / 34201" means that 2 ESTs/tags were found for this gene from a total of 34201 ESTs/tags for the tissue/histology.

The "P" columns give the statistical significance of the observed counts (normal vs. cancer) given the null hypothesis that the gene is expressed equally in normal and cancer. If P <= 0.05, then the value is displayed in red; otherwise the value is displayed in blue.
