A cancerous cell undergoes a gradual transformation and often goes undetected for years. Therefore, the identification of the genetic differences among normal, precancerous, and cancerous cells will contribute to a greater understanding of cancer and thereby:
  • foster the discovery of genes that directly cause cancer.
  • provide a way to identify early precancerous cells.
  • improve methods for early detection.
  • improve the ability to match patients with appropriate treatment.
